“System Updates” is a method of updating vehicle software via a wireless connection or via USB. This delivery system is similar to the technology used to in cellular phones. Note: not all vehicle trims support System Updates.

System Updates provide customers with a quick and easy way to update their vehicle systems without the need to visit a dealership. This allows system improvements even after the vehicle leaves the factory. They can expect the same seamless software updates with their vehicles as they have come to expect from other connected devices such as cell phones, personal computers, etc. This will result in an improve customer satisfaction and the ownership experience.

You can perform System Updates via Wireless by connecting your vehicle to a WiFi network. For detailed information on how to connect to your vehicle to a WiFi network, see your vehicle owner’s manual.
For most models to connect to a WiFi network follow these simple instructions. From the HOME screen select Settings>Connections>WiFI>Change Mode>Scroll down and select Network>Scroll down and select Save>Select an available network. On the HOME screen choose System Updates>Via Wireless.

We have taken many precautions to protect the vehicle, including the use of SSL and software signatures. To help ensure the vehicle systems are secure, we contract outside vendors to check our systems. We are also a founding member of an automotive community to share and reduce vulnerabilities. While Honda cannot guarantee that its systems are invulnerable, it believes that the measures it has taken are sufficiently robust and secure.

It is recommended to perform updates “via Wireless” connection. If your vehicle cannot establish a connection to perform updates “via Wireless”, then use the “via USB” option.

Once you have downloaded the software, follow the next steps:

1. Copy the downloaded file into the folder created by the vehicle on your USB drive.
2. Return to your vehicle and insert the USB drive into the USB data port. Refer to owner’s manual if required.
3. From the vehicle’s Display audio screen, select “System Updates”. Choose USB update method.
4. Follow the provided instructions.
5. When update is complete, upload your report by going to the Report Upload in the website.

Make sure your USB drive is blank. Check to see if your USB drive is formatted as FAT32.

FAT32 is a common file system and is usually pre-installed on most USB drives.

If your drive is not FAT32 you can reformat your drive to FAT32. Here are some instructions for formatting a USB drive.

For Windows operating systems:

Verify Drive Format

1. Connect the USB Flash Drive to the Windows computer.
2. In the “Computer” window, right-click on the drive icon in which the USB device appears.
3. From the menu, click “Properties”.
4. Under “Properties”, the File System should display FAT32.
5. If the File System is not FAT32, follow the instructions below to format your USB storage device to FAT32.

Format Drive
Note: The reformat process will delete all content on this USB drive. Please backup content before reformatting

1. Connect the USB Flash Drive to the Windows computer.
2. Click “Start” and then click “Computer” or “This PC”.
3. In the “Computer” window, right-click on the drive icon in which the USB device appears.
4. From the menu, click “Format”.
5. Under “File system” choose FAT32.
6. Once the process is complete, your drive will be formatted as FAT32.

For Mac OS:
Note: These steps may vary by operating system version.
Verify Drive Format

1. Connect the USB Flash Drive to the Mac OS X computer.
2. Hold the Ctrl button and click on the USB drive, or Right click on the USB drive.
3. Select “Get Info”.
4. Select the system profile.
5. Verify the “Format” is MS-DOS (FAT32).
6. If the format is not “MS-DOS (FAT32)”, follow the instructions below to format your USB storage device to FAT32.

Format Drive
Note: The reformat process will delete all content on this USB drive. Please backup content before reformatting

1. Connect the USB Flash Drive to the Mac OS X computer.
2. Search for Disk Utility in Launchpad and open it.
3. Select the USB drive and click “Erase”.
4. For Name: Enter a name for the USB drive.
5. For Format: Select MS-DOS(FAT). Note: MS-DOS(FAT) is FAT32.
6. Click on Erase.
7. Once the process is complete your drive will be formatted as FAT32.

File download location is managed by the computer’s web browser. Most computers will automatically save the file in the “Downloads” folder.

The system update is not fully complete until we have received a Report file. Your vehicle may have the latest software, but we will not know that you have completed the update. This can cause issues when determining future updates for your vehicle.
